A Social Enterprise
Happilife CIC are excited to have been awarded a £1,225 grant made possible thanks to players of the Postcode Lottery.
Happilife CIC is launching a monthly breakfast club for residents living in an supported‑living retirement property in Hornchurch, home to people aged 60 and over. Many residents live alone and experience limited daily social contact, which can lead to loneliness, poor nutrition, and reduced wellbeing.
The breakfast club will provide a warm, welcoming space where around 20+ residents can enjoy a light, healthy continental‑style breakfast at no cost. By bringing people together regularly, the project aims to strengthen social connections, encourage nutritious eating, and foster a greater sense of community within the building.
Funding will cover fresh food, delivery time, and essential organisational overheads, ensuring the club can run safely, consistently, and remain accessible for residents on low incomes or facing rising living costs and delivered once a month..
The Grassroots Grants programme, which is a partnership between Postcode Lottery and Groundwork, has helped 700 small, local organisations in England through unrestricted funding that supports the important work organisations deliver in their communities. The funding offered is unrestricted and therefore flexible. It can be used where it is most needed.
The grant programme is made possible thanks to funds raised by players of the Postcode Lottery and is awarded through Postcode Local Trust, Postcode Places Trust, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust and Postcode Society Trust.
“We’re absolutely delighted to launch this new breakfast club, and thanks to funding from the players of the Postcode Lottery and support from the providers, we’re able to make it happen. The application process was smooth from start to finish, and this funding means we can offer a truly worthwhile service that brings residents together for social interaction and a healthy, light breakfast. We’re excited to get started, and even more excited to share the progress of the project as it grows.” — Clare Kelly, Director, Happilife CIC
Laura Chow, Head of Charities at Postcode Lottery, said: “We are delighted that players of the Postcode Lottery will support small community-based organisations through this funding opportunity, thanks to our partnership with Groundwork UK. I encourage smaller, local charities and groups to visit our trust websites for more details.”
The Postcode Lottery Grassroots Grants Fund is administered by the national community charity, Groundwork.
Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s UK Chief Executive, said: “The value of locally led action is second to none when it comes to making lasting positive change in the communities which need it most. Unrestricted funding for small organisations with expert local knowledge and lived experience is a key component to ensuring communities can take control of their own destinies, and we’re pleased to be working with the Community Programmes team at Postcode Lottery to provide this.”
